Acido Lipoico is Yamamoto® Research's supplement based on Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), a molecule with a natural antioxidant action that is found in the body and in certain foods such as spinach, broccoli and brewer's yeast. ALA is considered a powerful antioxidant because it is able to neutralise both water-soluble and fat-soluble free radicals, protecting the cell from various types of damage. One of the main benefits of taking ALA is the improvement in insulin sensitivity and the consequent reduction in blood sugar levels. These properties make it extremely functional in reducing insulin resistance, a risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes and other metabolic diseases.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is involved in mitochondrial energy metabolism and offers numerous health benefits. ALA protects cells from oxidative stress, improves insulin sensitivity and prevents neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, as well as reducing inflammation.
In addition, due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, ALA protects the brain from oxidative stress and helps reduce LDL ('bad') cholesterol levels and increase HDL ('good') cholesterol, improving heart and artery health. ALA can also prevent skin ageing by reducing UV damage to the skin and improving the appearance and texture of the skin.
Several studies have shown that ALA improves insulin sensitivity, making it particularly useful for women suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). ALA promotes the absorption of glucose in the blood, ensuring greater blood glucose control and the proper functioning of sugar metabolism even in people who are obese or suffer from diabetes.
ALA is a fat-soluble molecule extremely powerful in its antioxidant action, capable of regenerating other molecules with antioxidant activity, both water- and fat-soluble, such as reduced glutathione, vitamin C, vitamin E and coenzyme Q10, amplifying their effects.
In summary, ALA is a useful nutritional factor in the treatment of metabolic alterations, diabetes predisposition, insulin resistance and PCOS. Its action can be enhanced by the combined intake of other nutritional factors such as inositol, N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) and Omega-3.
